Villa Rubini Redaelli – A Lakeside Gem
Villa Rubini Redaelli is a charming example of early 20th-century lakeside architecture on Lake Como’s western shore. It is surrounded by a beautiful 10,000-square-meter garden filled with lush greenery and open spaces.
Moreover, it features a large panoramic terrace that offers stunning, uninterrupted views of the lake. There is also an oval marble swimming pool, perfect for relaxing while admiring the scenery.
In addition, two private docks are available, one covered and one uncovered, for convenient boat access.
The villa is available for short-term rental in Dongo and offers spacious, elegant interiors. On the ground floor, there are three cozy living rooms, ideal for hosting or relaxing. One living room includes a large lake-view window that fills the space with natural light. Furthermore, a large dining room can seat up to 24 guests for meals and celebrations. There is also a service room to assist with food preparation or staff use.
The villa accommodates up to 18 guests comfortably across three levels. The first floor includes two single rooms, three double rooms, and one twin, all with en suite bathrooms. On the second floor, there is one double, two twin rooms, and a quadruple room, all with private bathrooms. Therefore, it is ideal for large families, group vacations, or wedding parties needing ample space. Additionally, the villa is a perfect venue for weddings or private events with outdoor religious ceremonies allowed.
Villa Rubini Redaelli was built in the late 19th century by Engineer Giulio Rubini. He was the final owner of the Ferriera di Dongo, an ironworks founded in the 1500s. The Rubini family acquired the factory in the late 18th century, passing it down through generations. Eventually, the factory was gifted to Rubini’s sister Irene, married to industrialist Giorgio Enrico Falck. Moreover, Rubini bought the former Rumi family villa, demolished it, and built the current structure. It was a wedding gift for his daughter Luigia, who married Lino Redaelli of Lecco. The Redaelli family, notably, owned several steel manufacturing plants in northern Italy. In the 1960s, Count Alberto del Bono commissioned a major garden renovation project. Furthermore, the renovation was led by architect Francesco Clerici, who brought new elegance to the estate.
Dongo lies on Lake Como’s western shore, near the towns of Tremezzo and Cadenabbia. Additionally, the villa is about two hours by car from Milan and just one hour from Como and Lugano. It takes around two hours to reach St. Moritz, making it great for day trips. Furthermore, Milan’s airports—Linate, Malpensa, and Orio al Serio—are only 90 minutes away. The nearest train station is in Colico, just 20 minutes by car or hydrofoil. Conveniently, the hydrofoil pier is located right next to the villa’s property. The village of Dongo offers views reaching south to Bellagio and north to Gravedona. For availability, pricing, or further details, please contact the rental agency directly.
